Today is World Egg Day

Know the reason, aim, and purpose of observing this day

Top News Desk: Today Friday (October 18), the world is celebrating World Egg Day. According to the information provided on the IEC’s own website “InternationalEgg.com”, it was decided to celebrate this day on the second Friday of October every year (which is October 14 this year) to spread the power of eggs around the world.

In 1964, the UK-based international organization ‘The International Egg Commission’ (IEC) started a journey with egg traders to increase consumers’ attraction to this easy source of animal protein. At this moment, the number of members of this organization is 80. In 1996, World Egg Day was announced at the conference held by this commission in Vienna, Austria to inform people about the food quality and nutritional value of eggs. Since then this day is being organized in more than 40 countries. And this year this day carries more special importance because this year is 25 year of World Egg Day. So this year’s event is supposed to be more ‘egg-cellent’!

2013) Bangladesh Animal Agriculture Society (BAAS) was appointed as the Bangladesh representative of the International Egg Commission and for the first time in Bangladesh, `World Egg Day ‘ was celebrated on October 11 of the same year, which was the 18th World Egg Day. Since then, World Egg Day has also been celebrated in Bangladesh every year. This year, Egg Day is celebrated worldwide with the theme ‘An Egg a Day, Nutritious All Day’.

On the occasion of the day, various programs will be celebrated under the joint initiative of the Directorate of Livestock, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, and the World’s Poultry. These programs include rallies, discussion meetings, and seminars.

Eggs are called complete food. Only a few foods in the world are given this superfood title – eggs being one of them. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) nutritional standards, a person should consume at least 104 eggs a year, a source in the Ministry of Animal Husbandry said. Even if it is more, there is no harm, but it should not be less, nutrition experts said.

In the last 12 years, Egg production in Bangladesh has increased by more than 307 percent. As a result, the annual availability of eggs in Bangladesh has increased to 136 per capita. On the occasion of World Egg Day, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said that Bangladesh had achieved self-sufficiency in egg production. By the year 2041, the annual production of these eggs in Bangladesh will stand at 4,648,800,000 pieces. The production of eggs in Bangladesh is currently two thousand 57 crores 64 lakh pieces per year.
