International Sign Language Day is today

Top News Desk: Today, September 23 (Friday), is International Sign Language Day. The day is celebrated in Bangladesh like in other countries of the world. This year’s theme of International Sign Language Day is ‘Sign Language Unite Us.’

The day is celebrated every year on 23 September and marks the beginning of Ishara Week. In 2018 this day was first celebrated.

According to a statistic, there are more than seven million deaf people in the world, more than 80 percent of whom live in developing countries. That is why sign language is very important. But out of this 80 percent of people, only 2 percent of people can use this sign language, which is very sad.

Therefore, the United Nations General Assembly emphasized the importance of International Sign Language Day or Sign Language Day in December 2017 to strengthen the rights of deaf people, and since 2018, this special day has been observed on September 23 worldwide.

Although this language has been used by humans since the earliest times, people who use this language are considered uneducated or unworthy by society.
