Top News Desk: Today, September 5th, is International Humanitarian Day, also known as International Day of Charity. The purpose of this day is to promote voluntary work and humanitarian efforts to help one another.
This day is primarily dedicated to the memory of Mother Teresa. She was of Albanian origin and at the age of 18, she left her home to join the ‘Missionaries of Charity’ organization as a missionary. Her selflessness and dedication to humanitarian work earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
On September 5th, 1997, she took her last breath in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, where she devoted her life to serving the less fortunate. This day is globally observed thanks to the initiative of the United Nations. It was officially approved during the 67th United Nations General Assembly session on December 17, 2012.
On that day, the United Nations Secretary-General delivered a special message, emphasizing the growing need for humanitarian assistance worldwide, which has only increased over time.
