Today is Martyred Intellectuals Day

Top News Desk: Today, December 14 (Wednesday) is Martyred Intellectuals Day. Today, the nation will respectfully remember its best children who were victims of a heinous massacre during the Great War of Liberation.

Knowing that the defeat in the Great War of Liberation was certain, the Pakistani invaders made a despicable plot to demoralize the Bengali nation. They killed many people including teachers, scientists, writers, thinkers, sportsmen, doctors, journalists, artists, engineers, lawyers, and government officials with their countrymen – Razakar, Al Badr, and Al Shams. In particular, they carried out mass killings on 14 December. After the final victory of the liberation war, blindfolded and wounded corpses of intellectuals were found in Dhaka and other parts of the country, including Rayerbazar Itkhola in the capital and the slaughterhouse in Mirpur.

Various programs have been taken to celebrate the day on Wednesday (December 14) with due national dignity. According to BASS sources, His Excellency President Md. Abdul Hamid and Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered wreaths at 7:06.

After that, at 7:30 am, members of the martyred intellectuals’ families and martyred freedom fighters, led by the Minister of Liberation War affairs, AKM Mozammel Haque, laid wreaths at Mirpur intellectual memorial and at 8:30 am at Ray’s Bazar slaughterhouse memorial. After that, people from all walks of life are laying wreaths at the intellectual’s memorial.

Honorable President Md. Abdul Hamid and Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion of the day. And with deep respect for the memory of the martyred intellectuals, they seek the forgiveness of their souls.
