BSMMU Launches Ambitious Initiative to Develop Dengue Vaccine

Top News Desk: In a recent media interaction entitled ‘We want an anti-dengue social movement,’ the Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, announced a groundbreaking initiative. During the gathering at the BSMMU auditorium on Saturday (August 5), the Vice-Chancellor shared the university’s plan to spearhead the development of a dengue vaccine through comprehensive research.

Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, Dr. Sharfuddin Ahmed urged the virology department to swiftly commence their work in this critical area. The formation of the Dengue Prevention Committee-2023 was also announced during the meeting, with Assistant Professor Dr. Tawfiq Ahmed designated as the member secretary.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor cautioned individuals experiencing fever to promptly undergo the NS1 test rather than self-medicate at home. He emphasized the importance of seeking professional medical advice before taking any medication and encouraged everyone to stay well-hydrated.

In an effort to enhance preventive measures, students were advised to wear full pants, full-sleeved shirts, and shoes with socks while attending school. This move aims to reduce the risk of exposure to dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

The BSMMU’s commitment to developing a dengue vaccine reflects their dedication to public health and underscores their determination to combat the spread of this dangerous mosquito-borne disease.
