SSC Exam Result: Education Minister Labels Decrease in Pass Rate and GPA-5 as Normal

Top News Desk: In a significant announcement, the results of the SSC and equivalent examinations for the year 2023 were published on Friday, revealing that the overall pass rate stands at 80.39 percent, with 1 lakh 83 thousand 578 students achieving the prestigious GPA-5.

However, it is noteworthy that both the pass rate and the number of students attaining GPA-5 have seen a decrease of 5 digits in comparison to the previous year. In the preceding year, the pass rate for the SSC and equivalent examinations was 87.44 percent, and a staggering 2 lakh 69 thousand 602 students secured GPA-5.

Addressing the concern over the decline in results, Education Minister Dipu Moni emphasized that such a development is actually within the normal range. He urged observers to consider the broader context and historical data, citing the pre-corona era results, where similar pass rates and GPA-5 figures were recorded. The minister pointed out that the years 2021 and 2022 were unique due to the impact of the Corona epidemic, resulting in a shorter syllabus and fewer subjects for the exams. As a result, students enjoyed certain advantages during those years, which were not available in the current year. Hence, the decrease in the pass rate and GPA-5 can be attributed to this disparity in exam conditions.

Earlier in the day, the official inauguration of the SSC and equivalent exam results took place with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pressing the button at Ganobhaban. Alongside her, Education Minister Dipu Moni and Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, as well as the chairmen of education boards, graced the occasion with their presence.
