Harmanpreet Kaur Faces Two-Match Ban for Code of Conduct Violations

Top News Desk: In a thrilling series between Bangladesh and India women’s cricket teams, one player has found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s behavior in the last ODI of the series has led to significant repercussions.

During the match against Bangladesh on July 22, Harmanpreet violated two rules of conduct. Firstly, she displayed dissent by angrily breaking the stumps with her bat after being given out. Additionally, she left the field while arguing with the umpire. Her actions resulted in a 75 percent fine of her match fee and 4 demerit points.

But it didn’t end there. Harmanpreet’s conduct extended beyond the field when, at the prize distribution ceremony, she criticized the umpiring of the match, labeling it as ‘pathetic’. Such remarks are considered a Level-2 offense under the ICC Code of Conduct, something no woman cricketer had previously been penalized for. As a consequence, she was fined 50 percent of her match fee and received an additional 3 demerit points.

As per the ICC Code of Conduct, if a player accumulates four demerit points within a 24-month period, they will receive an automatic two-match ban. Unfortunately, this rule applies to Harmanpreet, and she will now miss the next two matches, including the Asian Games in China scheduled for September.

Her absence will be a significant blow to the Indian team as they will have to compete without their regular captain. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline and respect for the game’s rules and officials at all times.
